Greenwood Bobbie

Bobbie Greenwood died peacefully in her Winters home on January 10, 2021. She was 103 years old.

As a student in college she swam backstroke on the swim team, and graduated in 1939 with a degree in physical education. It was during her college years when she met her husband, John. Bobbie and John moved to Winters, CA in 1951.

Through RVF she was good friends of Dave and Bev Stomps. She was a Rotarian and Bobbie brought the world to her rural community in the form of teenage foreign exchange students.

She spearheaded the push for a town pool. Her biggest achievement was becoming the founder and Head coach for the Winters Swim Team in 1962. The original pool was eventually replaced with a new one, officially called the Bobbie Greenwood Community Swim Center, in honor of her legacy. Bobbie remained dedicated to the swim team until the very end; just days before her death she was overheard assuring a friend “I’m not retired”.
