Past RVF President 2007-2009, Al Brieger passed away March 12, 2019 at the age of 91.
Ann Brieger passed away May 31, 2017 at the age of 86.

Alton G. (Al) Brieger of San Marcos, Texas, beloved and cherished husband, father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday afternoon March 12, 2019 at the age of 91. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 13, 1927 to Robert and Wilhelmina Brieger.

Alton grew up in Orange Grove, Texas (near Corpus Christi) and earned his degree in history at Texas A&I, now Texas A&M-Kingsville. Al, who was fluent in German, spent a year at the University of Heidelberg before coming back to the U.S. to earn his master’s in history and government at A&I.

Al and Ann Brieger 2009Al was a key part of Texas State for 21 years. He came to Southwest Texas State in 1964 as registrar and dean of admissions. Several years after that, he was dean of student and academic services, and taught full-time in the history department his last five years before retiring in August 1985. He was also an integral part of RFSA (Retired Faculty and Staff Association) since its inception.
He and his beloved wife of 60+ years, Ann, loved to travel and were able to visit many destinations in Europe. They also toured all 50 states – the lower 48 and the lower provinces of Canada by motorhome.

Al was a Rotarian for over 60 years. He became a Paul Harris Fellow and served as district governor from 1976-1977. Early in his years in San Marcos, he was part of a group commissioned by the mayor to write a charter for the city. While at Southwest Texas he was active with ACT serving as the state representative for Texas. He and Ann were long time members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Al is preceded in death by his wife Ann Brieger, his parents and brother. Al is survived by his son, Jon Brieger and wife, Jan of Blanco, Texas their daughter, Tasha Corradini and husband, R.G. Corradini; his daughter Karen Tarascio of California, and her children: Samantha Conway and husband, Kevin Conway, Allison Tarascio and Chase Tarascio.

Ann Brieger, of San Marcos, Texas, beloved and cherished wife, mother and grandmother, passed away early on Wednesday morning, May 31, 2017, at the age of 86. She was born in Harlingen, Texas on December 13, 1930 to David and Balsora (Simmons) Anderson.

Al and Ann Brieger dancing 2009Ann graduated from Harlingen High School and later attended and received her BBA degree from Texas A & I College.  She married Alton G. “Al” Brieger in Harlingen on August 28, 1955 and they enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage.  In 1964 they moved to San Marcos where Ann later worked for the San Marcos Record in the 1970’s as the Women’s Editor. Al and Ann were faithful members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and she enjoyed the many groups which she actively supported, namely, Junior Sorosis, Garden Club and Breckenridge Club. In 1977 Ann became a proud Honorary Member of the San Marcos Rotary Wednesday Group.

Her parents and a brother preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Alton G. “Al” Brieger; son, Jon Brieger and wife, Jan of Blanco, Texas and their daughter, Tasha Corradini and husband, R.G. Corradini; daughter, Karen Tarascio of California and her children, Samantha Conway and husband, Kevin, Alison Tarascio and Chase Tarascio.
